Progress & August Surf Goodness

August 9th, 2007

Excellent session on Saturday in Inch, East Cork. Light offshore wind and 2 to 3 foot, no though paddle out the back, just sit and wait, turn and paddle, surf some nice lefts, I’ll have a day of that every day, thanks very much, sweet.

What with the shocking weather apres surf, a bit more time was dedicated to the site. The newest section has been the addition of a video section dedicated to showing your own surf sessions in Ireland.
You can upload your own videos directly to the site, also rate and review videos of your mates, create playlists and more - check it out and any feedback would be great to hear.

Don’t worry I’m not that much of a web geek to build all of this (I do have a day job and a life!), the videos section is powered by the very great Magnify.net, check their site to find out more.

There are some pretty good videos posted already (some showing off east coast surf, WTF!), so if you’re a budding surf filmmaker, get posting n show off your talents, who knows where it’ll get ya and the rest of us can enjoy decent videos of surfing in Ireland, pass on the fever! Enjoy!

And here it is !

July 24th, 2007

I don’t know if it’s safe to say I was inspired, maybe justified is better, by a funny (in a quirky way) essay I read recently. I got around to finishing a little more on Surf Seconds and then decided what the heck, even though its not finished, why not just put it out there, its not as if theres anybody watching this space :) I’ve done nowt to promote it!

So now the much thought about toolbox for posting second hand surf gear is now live, all be it in a very infant state.

At the moment you can post details of surfboards only, (bodyboarding, kite-surfing, wind-surfing and kayaking gear to come), wanted and for sale to the site.

Registration is a very simple, username and email address are only required and a password is emailed to you. You can add tags to describe your ideal board (selling or wanted) and viewers to the site can browse by those tags to find your board, anyhow its easier if you see it for yourself.

The toolbox is by no means completed, feedback would be much appreciated so drop me a comment below if you have any.

Brief Update

June 26th, 2007

Some progress has been happening lately on this project I’m happy to say. I’ve made the move to building it from a hacked version of the incredible Wordpress. It would be stupid of me to propose a date for completion just yet though! In the meanwhile I’ll be posting videos of Irish surf sessions found from scampering around YouTube and the like, Enjoy!

Update

March 30th, 2006

Well if its not obvious enough already this is a brief update on the status of this project.

- Nothing has been done so far -

Come on, don’t act surpised! I’ve been spending along of my energies between two other projects, my own research work at CPPU and Corkgreenmap.org, theres a little more detail of both here.

I haven’t even thought too much about this project. At this stage I’m mostly interested in is building a simple and useful lift sharing tool. Its too often I see other cars (including myself!) driving to and from the surf with one or two people travelling. Seems unneccessary, but on the other hand lift sharing could be an entirely impractical/undesireable thing for people. I don’t know, what do you think?

In terms of building these tools I don’t see it happening for a while, but if you are interested in working on it let me know.

The Idea

September 18th, 2005

SurfSeconds is set to be a toolbox where newbie (and veteran) water sports enthuasiasts can gear up with a decent second hand rig, for

  • Surfing
  • Wind Surfing
  • Kite Surfing
  • …more?

With a set of nifty tools you will be able to post gear you want to sell or barter, or post gear you’re looking for. This will be a free service and there will never be any fees for using the site either as a seller or a buyer.

Monies and such dealings will be completely between buyers and sellers themselves, Surfseconds only aims to get the people in need in touch with the people who’ve got the goods.

There are a few resources on hand at the moment that will help you do just that, www.buyandsell.ie and www.irishsurfer.com and of course in notices and secondhand boards, equipment racks in stores around the coast, and not forgetting Ebay.ie.

What I want to create is a website that will bring all of these sources together and make the search for kit as easy as it is to search for a gaff with www.daft.ie, you know what I mean?

Some other features on the site will be:

  • a primo “Gimme a lift” section, RSS enabled and GoogleMap’ped.
  • want to see something else? join the Forum
